We’ve known and loved Sergey since meeting him in Kalinovka. But the heartbreaking truth about special needs Ukrainian kids he and so many others remained: If not adopted by the age of 16, he’d be mandated to spend the rest of his life in a mental asylum.
Sergey turned 16 on October 24, 2013…but (thank goodness!) American parents-to-be Karen and Wesley Blake had already put the “wheels” in motion to adopt him! Our chair-bound “Superman” – the boy who dreamed of a “mama” and drew pictures of her from such a very young age – got his wish, and took his citizenship oath just a few short weeks ago on September 26th.
Our hearts are full and filled with light – just like Sergey’s future.
