Sr. Bernarda is a hero. She’s inspired many to help orphans, in particular those with special needs, in Ukraine!
Irka Tkachenko shares her story of how Sr. Bernarda inspired her. Sr. Bernarda also taught her children at St. George School in New York City.
A few years ago, when Sr. Bernarda saw me selling my jewelry at the festivals, she asked if she could buy some beads from me, so the kids could make jewelry for the Ukrainian orphans. I came into the schools, donated all my beads and taught the kids how to make the jewelry myself. It was one of the most memorable days in my life. Do what you love and help others!
Irka continued to help others thanks to her encounter. She raised funds to help Ukrainian orphans with Maya’s Hope!

Irka is committed to helping Maya’s Hope by donating her own jewelry for our Karaoke event to help raise awareness about the cutie pies.
So thanks to our friend Sr. Bernarda, we can continue to help orphans in Ukraine by improving their lives …
Thank you Irka for sharing your story!
