Opening of an Exhibition and a Picnic!

We are now supporting orphanages in the Ivano-Frankivsk region of Ukraine. Here is an article written by our partner in Ukraine about what they have been doing recently!

If you would like to become a monthly sponsor for these children please email keshia.melton@mayashope.org !

On Saturday, June 18, two events with participation of Ukrainian Philanthropic Network were held.  The exhibition of artworks made by children with special needs “Unsolved Feelings” and the series of postcards with the same name were presented at 1 pm in the fortress gallery “Bastion”; the rest of the day was spent in the park with children of Zaluchyansky and Kolomyia orphanages.5cbb10524118cae2d7dfcc7a858dd4c0Let’s start with the exhibition. As previously reported, presented artworks were made in technique of finger painting by students of Zaluchyansky and Kolomyisky orphanages. Some creators attended the exhibition and could personally tell journalists about their work.IMG_6294

Children like to test everything by touch. Fingers sensitivity gives an opportunity to recreate personal impressions, observations and feelings. And there are no rules, analogues, movement restrictions in this kind of painting.

The series of postcard “Unsolved Feelings”, based on artworks of children with disabilities, was also presented at the exhibition. These postcards are intended to inform the public about the rights of children of special needs in development and training.

In fact, artwork of children with disabilities, who are brought up in orphanages, is one of the few opportunities to talk about themselves. Their artwork is a kind of call to comprehend their problems and needs differently, creatively and farsightedly. This inspired the creation of the project “Postcard that is important not only for two of us”.

The exhibition will last until July 3. So you still have time to attend.

After the opening everybody went to the T.H.Shevchenko City Park where the entertainments were already waiting for children. Early that morning volunteers of Ukrainian Philanthropic Network have arranged a special location, where children could be comfortable and spend some interesting time. It was a good opportunity to communicate with our special friends, and to paint together with them as well. Organizers of Art Kids – Picnic did a great job to take care of children’s entertainments  and make no one feel deprived of attention.
